TriCalm - Aaaaahhhh!

I think we've all been there, itchy skin, burning skin, stinging skin.... not fun, not fun at all.  There is a particularly noxious weed in my garden.  Not only is it fast-spreading, but I'm allergic to it so pulling it out and getting rid of it is tricky.  I wear gloves but if the oozy stuff that comes out of the leaves and stems gets on my gloves then gets on me, I get quite the itchy, burny rash on my arms.  I really dislike that weed!!  I just removed some from my garden a few days ago and yes, I developed quite an itchy rash.   It was a perfect time to try TriCalm.

What is TriCalm you ask?  Well, it is a steroid-free anti-itch gel.  It's great for rashes, bug bites, allergic reactions, poison ivy, hives, and other skin ailments.

From their website:

TriCalm's formula contains aluminum acetate and COSMEDERM-7, a naturally occurring element found in leafy green vegetables. The patented formulation helps to alleviate itching, burning, stinging and inflammation of the skin. TriCalm does not numb the skin and unlike steroids and topical antihistamines, TriCalm is safe for daily use.

So did it work for me?  Why yes, yes it did!  First, a little goes a long way! It goes on smoothly and is more like a thin lotion than a cream.  The itching immediately stopped and I feel like the allergic reaction seemed to go away faster.  It goes on clear and smooth and really soothed the itching.  I'm thrilled to have this around when mosquito season comes around!  This really did a great job for me!  I definitely give it a thumbs up!

I'm thrilled I had the opportunity to test and review TriCalm thanks to Moms Meet!  Would you like to try some for yourself?  Well, two of you lucky readers can!  Woot!  Two winners will each receive a full-size tube of TriCalm!

Dial - So Festive!

My kids are nuts for Foaming Hand Wash.  Imagine their excitement when I showed them the new Dial Complete Foaming Hand Wash, all dressed up in their holiday best!

This fun Holiday collection comes in four fun designs:  Santa, Snowman, Candy Cane, and Holiday Scene.  These designs can brighten up your bathroom or kitchen.  We are brightening up both!

I love how cute they look, but the thing I love the most is my kids are washing their hands more!  Yes, it's true!  I guess there IS magic in that smiling snowman face!

Dial Complete is the #1 doctor recommended antibacterial foaming handwash.  It kills 99.99% of germs encountered in a household setting, yet it's still gentle on the skin.  That's espeically important since it 'Tis the Season for colds and flu!

Who knew soap could add a little festive fun to the season?  Well, now I do!  Try some at your household, you might be surprised too!

Welcome to Hotel Transylvania!

Hotel Transylvania was a very fun movie!  My whole family enjoyed it!  We're still walking around saying, "I don't go Blah, Blah, Blah" in our best Dracula voice.  So when I found out about the Hotel Transylvania game, I was excited to review it!

Hotel Transylvania, where monsters and their families can live it up, free to be the monsters that they are with no humans around to bother them. Dracula’s beloved daughter Mavis is turning 118 and Dracula has invited a few of his closest friends: Frankenstein and his wife, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, and the Werewolf family to Hotel Transylvania to celebrate her special day. Catering to these monsters is a delight for Dracula, but everything could change for the overprotective father when one ordinary guy stumbles through the hotel and takes a shine to Mavis.

Actually, I invited my son to review it.... so here's what he said:  "It is AWESOME!"

My son loved that he was trying to rescue Jonathan but he wasn't thrilled to be playing as Mavis, a girl.  He said he wished he could be other characters in the game also.    He loved the power-ups, and liked that they came in the form of birthday presents for Mavis.  He especially enjoyed turning into a bat!

He also enjoyed all the secret rooms and hidden gems.  He would announce whenever he found another one!

I loved that it kept him entertained, wasn't violent, and I thought the graphics were great!  So Hotel Transylvania gets a thumbs up from both of us!  It comes in both DS and 3DS and can be found wherever video games are found, including Amazon.com.  Enjoy!

Charmin Freshmates

A Great Product and a Sweepstakes, I think that equals a perfect combination!

Let me tell you about a product I discovered.  It's called Charmin Freshmates.  I'm not going into a lot of detail here.  Just suffice it to say, that Charmin Freshmates are used in conjunction with your toilet paper.  In my opinion, they are the right size, the right amount of moisture, the right amount of softness, and they come in a cute box!  Enough said.  (They really are great, though!)

Now on to the contest!  Charmin and Vocalpoint are offering a $5,000 VISA gift card towards a bathroom makeover and a $1000 VISA gift card towards a consultation with an interior designer to the Grand Prize Winner.  There are also 42 Daily Prize Winners of a 40 count tub of Charmin Freshmates!  You can enter here!  Good luck!

Poptropica!

Thank you to Ubisoft for sponsoring this post. Please click here to learn more about Ubisoft. I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective. #UbiChamps

I get to tell you about a fun new game available on Nintendo DS!  Some of you may have heard, and even played Poptropica online.  (Being the behind-the-times gal on online games, this was news to me!)  Now it is available for the DS!

Poptropica Adventures (DS)
In
Poptropica Adventures, the Poptropica museum is in ruins and needs help. Players can explore three amazing Islands and find missing artifacts to help restore the museum to its former glory. Along the way, they meet interesting characters, collect artifacts, solve puzzles and play mini-games in the ultimate on-the-go Poptropica experience.

My son really enjoyed this game!  He liked that there was lots of different challenges along the way.  There are racing games, catching games, mazes, and a sort of dodge-ball game as you dodge things being thrown at you!  I think his favorite is a type of maze where you connect the pipes so water or electricity can flow through.

I liked the fact that you could create your own Avatar, with lots of different style combinations.  My son had a great time creating his game guy and mine was quite stylish!

The only drawback I see to this game, is there are only three islands to explore.  I wish there were more islands or maybe an expansion pack offered.

Poptropica is rated E for Everyone and is a game the whole family can enjoy!  I'm also thrilled that there is no violence!

'Tis the gift-giving season, and I think this would be a great gift!  You can find it Amazon.com or ToysRus.com, or wherever Nintendo DS games are sold!  Now, what are you waiting for?  Go start exploring Poptropica!

Rx Timer - Simple Yet Ingenious!

So, with a child with a chronic illness you can imagine that there are a lot of pill bottles around here.  I feel like we are constantly trying to track and make sure we've taken all the meds and at the proper time.  Yes, it can get a little overwhelming at times.

Enter the Rx Timer!  What an incredible, yet simple idea!  It is actually a cap that goes on your medication bottle that has a timer on it.  It lets you know how long it's been since you last took your meds.  It works like a stop watch, counting down since the last time you opened your pill bottle.

Rx Timer Cap® activation is automatic and foolproof since there are no alarms to program, no buttons to press and no instructions to read. Unlike medication reminders and medication alerts, which require programming, the mere act of opening and closing the container resets the automatic patented pill timer.

  • The World Health Organization found that less than 50% of patients take their medications as directed.
  • Failure to take meds as directed costs 125,000 lives each year and close to $300 billion in increased healthcare costs.
  • Studies proved that using the RX Timer Cap lifted adherence by as much as 34%
See!  Incredible, yet simple!

They are offered in lots of different sizes and types to fit almost any pill bottle.  You just remove your regular lid and replace it with the Rx Timer Cap!

This has made such an improvement around here!  I just need to glance at the top of the bottle to let me know if my daughter took her meds.  This would be wonderful for anyone, but especially those with young kids, or helping your parents or the elderly.

You can purchase these at a lot of pharmacies or sometimes they are offered on auto-fill programs.  You can check your local pharmacy or you can purchase them directly from the website at www.RXtimercap.com

Would you like to win one of your own?!  One lucky reader can win their own Rx Timer Cap!

Just Dance 4 - Burn Off Those Pies!

Thank you to Ubisoft for sponsoring this post. Please click here to learn more about Ubisoft. I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective. #UbiChamps

I love Thanksgiving!  I love being with family, I love spending the whole day celebrating, I love the food, and oh yes, I love me some pie!  What I don't love is those extra pounds that seem to sneak on this time of year.

Enter Just Dance 4!  This is so much fun!  It's so fun you don't even realize that you are burning up those calories!  My family and I had the chance to preview this game, and it is definitely a winner!  I love that it has music we can all enjoy!  I personally loved dancing (or flailing - depends on who's telling the story!) to Livin' La Vida Loca.   My husband was rocking out to Jailhouse Rock, My son loved Rock Lobster, and my daughter loved Call Me Maybe!  There are over 40 tracks on this game!

Up to four people can dance at once and they each have their own choreographed moves, that look so cool all together (or hilarious - depends on who's telling the story!)

Just Dance 4 solves one of our annual Thanksgiving dilemnas.  My mom always wants to play games after we've stuffed ourselves on all the yumminess.  We all just want to digest (or sleep - depends on who's telling the story!)  Just Dance 4 would get us all moving and having a great time!  Mom would be happy, we would be happy, and much hilarity would ensue... mostly the kids laughing uproariously as the parents take their turn!  Though we WILL get those little stinkers back when we challenge them in Battle Mode!  Some of us have had decades to build up our dancing repetoire!

Just Dance 4 is great for Thanksgiving Day, but I also plan to use the "Just Sweat" mode for after Thanksgiving.  I want to exercise during this holiday season, but it's usually hard for me, cuz I just want to play!  Well, this feels like play to me!

You can find Just Dance 4 at retailers who carry video games like Amazon or Toys R Us!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go brush up on my moves!  Come tomorrow, those kids are going down in defeat!

SparX!

I've mentioned before that my daughter has Type 1 Diabetes.  We are always on the look-out for great products that are healthy for her, but still allow her to be a normal teenager (is there such a thing?)

So, when Moms Meet gave me the opportunity to review a healthy candy, well... I was all over that!

Let me introduce you to Xlear SparX!

From Xlear, Inc:

It is a candy that is sweetened with xylitol, a plant-based, dentist-recommended sweetener that's been proven to improve dental health and strenghten tooth enamel.  It also doesn't interfere with the body's blood sugar levels or insulin production, making it safe for kids and adults on a sugar-controlled diet.

Xlear SparX Candy is available in Citrus, Fruit and Berry flavors.  They retail for about $1.49 for one tube.

So what did I think of it?  I only got to try a little because my kids glommed onto it!  They both really liked it!  Because it is free of artificial colors or flavors, the colors of the little candy beads were not too bright like you see in some candies, but they tasted great.  I didn't notice any after-taste.  It absolutely satisfied my craving for something sweet!  I loved the size of the tube, and loved all the little candy beads!  I'm so glad I got the chance to review this, because I may not have discovered it otherwise, but now it's a candy of choice!  Plus, my daughter can now have candy without all the accompanying blood sugar issues she has with other brands.

Xlear, Inc. also has a complete line of dental health products.  We tried the bubble gum flavor and the Strawberry Banana flavor toothpaste and loved it!  Check them out at facebook.com/xylitol.experts

Thanks, Xlear SparX for  helping my daughter feel a little more "normal"!

Simply Potatoes - Simply Awesome!

Have I mentioned yet, how I love Simply Potatoes?  I really am a potato fan, love the taste!  But, boy do I dislike peeling them and cutting them up.

Simply Potatoes saves me all that hassle.  And yes, they are real potatoes!  Not instant, not fake, simply real potatoes!

There are lots of different varieties like Southwest Style Hashbrowns, Sour Cream and Chives Mashed Potatoes, Diced Potatoes with Onion, Red Potato Wedges... they even have Macaroni and Cheese.  Can you hear my children cheering?

With Thanksgiving right around the corner and all the prep work that goes into it... why not make your life a little easier with Simply Potatoes?  The quality is amazing, and they are so quick!
See... they are real potatoes!

Another way I use Simply Potatoes is for those quick meals when I want something delicious, but don't have a lot of time.  I just threw some Diced Potatoes with Onion in the crockpot, added some milk, cheese, diced ham, and some chicken stock.  Voila! In a few hours I'll have a delicious chowder!  Yummmmmm!
Here's everything thrown in the crockpot, getting ready to cook!

On Thanksgiving morning I'm going to make a breakfast pizza using the Southwest Style Hashbrowns.  I'm excited already!  Here's the recipe, if you're interested:

1 (8-ounce) can  crescent dinner roll dough

12 ounces breakfast sausage
1 cup frozen shredded hash brown potatoes, thawed
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
8-12 eggs, whisked (depending on how egg-y you want it)

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 375°.
  2. Separate dough into triangles. Press triangles together to form a single round crust on a 12-inch pizza pan coated with cooking spray. Crimp edges of dough with fingers to form a rim.
  3. Cook sausage in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat until browned, stirring to crumble. Drain.
  4. Top prepared dough with sausage, potatoes, and cheese. Combine milk, salt, pepper, and eggs, stirring with a whisk. Carefully pour milk mixture over sausage mixture. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, if desired. Bake at 375° for 25 minutes or until crust is browned.
So, is your mouth watering yet?  Is your mind a-swim with all the possibilities using Simply Potatoes!  Want more recipes?  Check out http://www.simplypotatoes.com!  Want to win a coupon for free Simply Potatoes?  One of your lucky readers can!

My Newest Craze!

Some may call it a sickness... but I like to try new things!  So check out my latest craze!

I've been reading blogs and of course, playing on Pinterest about refinishing furniture, or upcycling, or whatever it's called these days.  I looked at the pictures and thought, "Hey, I can do that!"  So.... I did.

Here's my first project:

Before:

After:

Okay, the nightstand doesn't lean... I must when I take pictures! Ü

Is that cute or what?!  So simple to do, and now I want to paint everything white!  Seriously....

I just started on my kitchen table and mis-matched chairs.  So far three chairs are now white, one to go plus the table.  I'll share the transformation in another post!  I also did a really cute project with some old milk cans and black paint.  Coming soon, so stay tuned.... and Happy Crafting!

Exuviance Does It Again!

If you've read some of my other posts, you know I'm a fan of Exuviance products.  So, when I was asked if I'd like to try out another product, you can bet I said a resounding, "Yes"!

Exuviance has come out with a product called Exuviance Targeted Filler T5.  It is a high precision soft tip pen that allows you to apply the filler directly to problem areas... like my forehead lines, happy little laugh lines around my eyes, and the ever-deepening line between my nose and mouth.  Wow, that's a lot of problem areas!

It has a triple boost formula with CitraFill, NeoGlucosamine and Matrixyl Peptides that help stimulate collagen.

Check out these results:

Clinical studies indicate that after using the Exuviance Targeted Filler T5 after 8 weeks of twice daily use:
  • 93% Overall signs of aging less noticeable
  • 93% Skin texture is smoother
  • 91% Skin looks younger
  • 91% improvement in crow's feet
  • 86% improvement in scowl lines
  • 86% improvement in smile or laugh lines
  • 86% Skin lifted and less droopy
  • 86% Targeted lines less noticeable
  • 84% improvement in fine lines under eyes
Percentage of respondents reporting. Data on file, NeoStrata Company, Inc.

So, I got my Targeted Filler Pen out and being the somewhat mechanically challenged person that I am, couldn't figure out how to get the cream to come out.  p.s.  Turn the barrel on the plunger and then depress the plunger directly onto your problem areas.  Easy right? Yeah, well now it is for me too!  I applied it to my forehead wrinkles, mouth lines, and around my happy, little laugh lines.  I instantly loved the way my skin felt, nice and soft!

I started noticing a slight improvement in my forehead wrinkles within a week.  Now that I've been using it for two weeks, I'm starting to see more results.  I was really surprised because the instructions said that it may take up to eight weeks of twice daily use to see results.  I'm sold!  I'm really happy with the improvement I'm seeing already.  The forehead wrinkles aren't nearly as deep and the lines from my nose to my mouth seem more filled out.

You can purchase Exuviance Targeted Filler T5 at the Neostrata website or at selected beauty retailers.  I recently found it at Ulta.

Thanks Exuviance!  I'm well on my way to smoother, better looking skin!

Want to find out more?  You can check out Neostrata on facebook or twitter also!

Wreck-It Ralph - It's a Smash Hit!

Wowza!  Yes, I said it.... Wowza!  We had the opportunity to see Wreck-It Ralph and it was a smash hit with our family!  My husband loved the "gamers" humor, my daughter thought it was funny, I loved the 3-D and the love-story (yes, there's a bit of romance in there) and my son... well, my son is still talking about the show!

So, what is Wreck-It Ralph about?

From Disney:

For decades, Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) has been overshadowed by Fix-It Felix, Jr. (voice of Jack McBrayer), the good-guy star of their game who always gets to save the day. Tired of playing the role of a bad guy, Ralph takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a journey across the arcade through multiple generations of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.

On his quest, Ralph meets tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch) from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty, and feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) from the candy-coated cart-racing game Sugar Rush, who may just be his first real friend. But everything changes when a deadly enemy is unleashed, threatening the entire arcade and Vanellope herself. Ralph finally gets his chance to save the day—but can he do it in time? “Wreck-It Ralph” crashes onto the big screen on November 2, 2012, in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

This show was incredibly well done!  I loved how the different game characters were animated like their games.  The newer "Hi-Def" game characters, were more... well Hi-Def.  The story was so much fun and had some unexpected twists and turns!  I loved that our whole family enjoyed the show from the opening credits to the closing credits!

I love that as soon as the arcade closes, all the different game characters can visit each other at Game Central Station (yes, it reminds you of Grand Central Station).  I loved seeing characters from when I was a child, to ones that my kids recognize, plus some new ones!

Here's a little clip to give you an idea of how great this movie is:

Our whole family gives Wreck-It Ralph a enthusiastic thumbs up!  We want to go see it again!  It opens in theaters November 2, 2012.

Star Trek for Halloween

My son loves all things Star Trek! I don't know Where he gets that from?  I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that both his parents like it too!  When I asked him what he wanted to be for Halloween, you know what he said...  A Star Trek guy!

After doing some searching on different websites, we found a great Star Trek costume!  My son felt very strongly that he wanted the red shirt.  Me, being a fan of Star Trek, had very mixed emotions.  Red-shirted crew members didn't fair so well in the episodes.  If you watched Star Trek on TV, you know that one red-shirt met an untimely end each episode.  But, my son loves red so we got it!

He is absolutely thrilled with his costume!  When it arrived (with very prompt shipping, I might add) he immediately tried it on and assumed many Star Trek poses.  I had fun watching him enjoy his costume so much!  Now, he's having a hard time waiting for Halloween to get here!  Me too, but my anticipation is much more candy-based!

The Star Trek costume fit great and is well-made!  It even passed my husband's inspection, which is something, since he is a much bigger fan than me.  In fact, without spoiling it, our Halloween this year will definitely have a theme and will involve whole family!  I'll take pictures when everything is finished.

Now I'm on the hunt for phasers, and blue face paint (no, not for smurfs).  Wish me luck!

What a Delight!

Have I mentioned my affection for frozen treats?  Have you noticed I may have a bit of an over-developed sweet tooth?  Maybe you've also noticed, but were too polite to say anything, that I am pleasingly plump.  I'm sure it has nothing to do with my over-developed sweet tooth.... sigh....

This week my sweet tooth has been not only satisfied, but down right indulged, and I have happily avoided the guilt that comes with that.  How, you ask? Well, let me tell you....

Arctic Zero!  Arctic Zero!  Arctic Zero!  That's me shouting it from the roof-tops (okay, maybe I'm just saying it loudly while I sit at my computer, but the emotion is there!)

Arctic Zero are frozen desserts that I must say, are very yummy! Yet, these yummy desserts contain less than 150 calories per pint, are fat-free, gluten-free, and have 14 grams of whey protein per pint!  Are you completely amazed?  I am!  There are no sugar alcohols, and are suitable for type 2 diabetes.  For you carb counters out there (I'm one of them) the delicious chocolate pint I just finished only had 6 carbs per serving, or 24 total for the pint.  Yes, you heard me right!

I love the taste, and really do feel like I can finally indulge my sweet tooth.  My daughter has type 1 diabetes and so we count every carb in this house.  This is so wonderful, that she can sit down and have a delicious dessert without sending her carb count through the roof!  Woo hoo!

Artic Zero has Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Cookies and Cream, Strawberry, Vanilla and Maple, Coffee, Mint Chocolate Cookie, and right now a Pumpkin Spice flavor that is my absolute favorite!  My daughter's also!  After dueling each other with our spoons, we decided to share and had a great bonding moment over a pint of Artic Zero Pumpkin Spice!

They also have Arctic Zero Bars with only 85 calories per bar, and 70% fewer calories, fat and sugar than other preumium bars!  They come in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and orange and are all covered in a chocolate coating!

I know I'm raving on and on about Arctic Zero Frozen Desserts, but these are such a blessing for us!  My daughter wants to be a normal teenager, but with type 1 diabetes, there are things she just has trouble with.  Arctic Zero is a dessert that is delicious, and she can eat without causing her blood sugar to go off the charts!  I can have a dessert without all the accompanying guilt.

I think you'll really enjoy these!  I am so glad Arctic Zero now has a prominent place in our freezer (but not too prominent, cuz I am having a hard time sharing!)

I can find them at my local Fry's and Sprouts, but they are also available on Amazon.

You can check them out on their website, www.myarticzero.com or on their Facebook page, or Twitter!

Now that your mouth is watering, I'm going to tempt you some more with a great contest!  One of your lucky readers can win your own sample pack of Arctic Zero!  Let me tell you, it is one amazing sample pack!  I'm still sampling!  I received a pint of every flavor they have, plus two boxes of their bars!  Very generous!

Finding Nemo - Again!

I grew up watching Disney movies!  I remember wanting to be Cinderella, going to the ball!  My kids are growing up with Disney too.  We try to catch all the Disney movies as they come out in the theater.

We took our daughter to see Finding Nemo when it first came out and loved it!  We have the video and watch it at home, and love it.  Though, I've seen it so many times that I have a tendency to tune it out.

When I was offered the chance to see Finding Nemo in 3D, I thought it would be a great opportunity for my son to see it in the theater.  I thought, "Oh, he will really enjoy this!"  Well, he did... and so did I!

I was completely swept away in the moment.  I loved the 3D effects, truly amazing!  I loved that the 3D glasses were orange and white striped like a clown fish. (Way to go, Disney!)  I loved the story!  I forgot how much I loved the story of Finding Nemo.

I laughed, I cried, I even pondered.  As I watched other parent figures (granted, they were sea creatures) I evaluated where I sat on the parenting scale.

I forgot how funny this movie is!  I belly-laughed many times, plus lots of giggling!  The sea turtles are a personal favorite of mine.... dude.  They totally rock, dude!  Here's a little trivia for you... did you know that the director, two-time Oscar winner Andrew Stanton, also did the voice of Crush, the sea turtle?  It's true, dude.  (sorry, just channeling my inner sea-turtle!)

My son and I thoroughly enjoyed Finding Nemo in 3D!  In fact, the audience applauded at the end of the movie!  It is so worth it to see it in the theater.  Even if you've already seen it, even if you have the video, even if you think you're too old for Disney (which I think personally, no one is too old for Disney!).  It opens in theaters nationwide today, September 14th!

Rediscover Finding Nemo in 3D, and remember fish are friends, not food!

Disclosure:  I had the opportunity to see the film for the purpose of a review.  The opinions are all my own and free of charge!
